Roving Weaving Workshop | Sunday, July 10, 11am-2pm

Roving Weaving Workshop | Sunday, July 10, 11am-2pm

  • Learn to create a stunning large-scale piece of art with Meghan Shimek! In this 3-hr class, you will learn how to work with a rainbow of unspun wool roving to create a one-of-a-kind wall hanging to take home by the end of class. We will cover a few basic skills (this workshop is great for beginners and experienced fiber artists alike) and have plenty of time to dive into your creative process. The class includes a copper dowel to hang your weaving, up to five pounds of wool roving to make your artwork, nails, and a bag to carry home your art.

Light snacks & beverages will be provided as well as a 10% discount off everything in our shop :)

Instructor: Meghan Shimek is an Oakland-based fiber artist who creates large-scale woven wall hangings and sculptures. Her engaging work is ethereal, whimsical and delicate, but rooted in the warm, earthy materials she uses. Exploring organic movement, Meghan's weaving style allows the fibers to fall into an indeterminate pattern that reveals the beauty and vulnerability of her materials.

Meghan was raised in Michigan and studied history and nutrition before discovering her true passion in weaving. Since dedicating herself fully to fiber work, she has studied tapestry and Navajo weaving, rigid heddle and floor loom weaving. Meghan developed her own signature weaving style over several years as she explored how art can be used to express grief and heal after personal loss. Today, Meghan exhibits her work, creates commissions, and teaches weaving workshops across the world.
