We're so thrilled to be taking part in the 2025 Bay Area Yarn Crawl and offering kits for the exclusive yarn crawl patterns! Created by Ksenia Naidyon from @life_is_cozy, this pattern is absolutely heavenly knit up in our Shangdrok DK Merino collection.
The cowl features two types of mosaic patterns and garter stitch. Looking more complex than it is, all colorwork requires working with just one color per row and the whole cowl is almost completely worked with knit and slipped stitches (very little purling, yay!). The piece is knit flat from the back neck towards the wide front section and shaped with increases. The edges are polished with built-in i-cord that is continued in the two-color i-cord bind off, video tutorial provided. Colors are carried along the edge and hidden in the i-cord edging, so there's no yarn cutting and just a couple of ends to weave in in the end! Mosaic stitch patterns are both charted and written out.
The Shangdrok yarn we chose for this pattern is extra special in that it's hand-dyed by Shangdrok's founder, April Tang, herself. April is a social entrepreneur who not only founded an incredibly impactful initiative to support and preserve the artforms of nomad women on the Tibetan Plateau but has also created a hand-dyeing studio (and indie dye movement!) in Taiwan.
Each kit comes with two skeins of yarn (you have five color combos to choose from) plus your own exclusive code for Ksenia's step-by-step pattern. You'll just want to have your favorite 3.5mm - 5mm needles on hand to start knitting! Our sample cowl was knit up by Leigh Ann Parente using US size 6 / 4mm.
